Start with Amazing (Giveaway Time!)

It’s Friday! We’ll say that already means this day is Amazing, yes?

I sit down with coffee and a bowl of oatmeal almost every morning; I don’t get sick of it. Usually I add a banana, or some other fruit. Usually I top it with a spoonful of nut butter, and never get bored of watching it melt and spread. Then, my bowl is complete with a drizzle of honey, or a sprinkle of cinnamon, or a few crunchy sliced almonds.

Things never get too crazy around here…

The other start to my day usually involves a good sweat. What makes a workout session amazing? An endorphin rush; a meditative calm; speeding downhill while the wheels do the work and you lean into a curve; squatting until your glutes burn and you realize you might waddle the next day but it’s a good burn.

Quaker tested my taste buds; my oats are good, but do they make me Amazing?

fridayfood 012

Clearly they picked up on something – “Fruits & Nuts”? Yes, please. “Hearty Medleys”? I’ll take one of those. The options being Banana Walnut or Apple Cranberry Almond; I’ll be honest and say that I’ve yet to taste something banana-flavored and think “That’s tastey good!”. It was, however, a good option for that day last week when our banana supply ran out (what?!).

The Apple Cranberry Almond is my pick-of-the-day! Sliced almonds, staring right at you, with bright dried cranberries and those noticeable little tiny apple squares.

The other points go to the 3g of Dietary Fiber, short (readable) ingredient list, low sodium, no cholesterol, and fat content identical to plain rolled oats. However, there are 11g of sugar (compared to 0g – rolled oats, win) and only 3g of protein.

To upgrade the mix: I add 1/4 cup of rolled oats to 1 package of the Hearty Medley.

Quaker also offered to test my strength – Bob Harper released a Yoga video “For the Warrior!”. If you start your day by being a Warrior, that’s amazing.

This gem will be used and reviewed while D and I spend this weekend at my house. There are definitely no Yoga studios to be found; instead we’ll be in our Zen, stretched & posed state while listening to Bob & seeing how he makes it burn.

Now, the most Amazing partQuaker will be sending one of these packages (full with all of the above!), to one of YOU!

The package includes: A Yoga mat (Which has already been used and approved! Loved it), Bob’s video, an alarm clock, breakfast bowl + spoon + napkin, four boxes of above-mentioned oats, a notebook, and coupons for more oatmeal!

How to enter the Giveaway: Tell me what makes your morning Amazing! It could be anything from a crazy-delicious breakfast recipe, a run, a deep breathe in your pose-of-choice, or whatever way you decide to get going every day.
US residents only, please.

To enter twicetweet it up! And leave me a comment about it. 🙂

HAPPY Weekend! Make it yours; make it amazing!

The fine print: Quaker sent me this package free of charge. They did not compensate me for this review.

I start everyday with a workout in my company gym, and am at my desk worked out and showered by 7am. Energizes me and starts the day out right!

  2. How is Bob’s yoga video, anyway?? Sounds like an amazing way to start the day. I hauled my bum all the way down to Union Square to meet my friend for a 5:30 workout – there was no way she was going to do it alone and it was the only time of day she could work out. It was great! So nice to have the workout behind you so early in the morning. By the time I ate breakfast at about 7AM, it felt like lunchtime! Which, fantastically, meant that I was in the mood for a salad from the gym’s salad bar. GREAT way to start the day!

  3. Working out first thing in the morning makes it amazing and I am in a fantastic mood for the rest of the day and prepared for any challenges.

  4. Coffee. Coffee is what does it for me before I do anything else.

    Love the giveaway!

  5. J

My mornings are amazing because of a great workout at 5am and then sitting at my desk at 7am, drinking my coffee and eating oatmeal! It really is my perfect morning! That Apple Cranberry Almond sounds delicious!

  6. I love my early morning gym sessions! They really improve my energy levels throughout the rest of the day and give me a great endorphin rush!

  7. Angela

ALWAYS start my day with a sweat! The day never seems the same if there aren’t some endorphins in my system 🙂

  8. I love oatmeal! Smoothies were my go to breakfast food in the summer, but oatmeal warms me up in the morning now 🙂 I love to exercise in the morning, so that’s what makes me feel amazing

  9. Jul

I love my morning workouts – run, swim, lift, Crossfit… just feels so good to start the day off with some ACTION.

  10. I love waking up early and getting my body moving and then enjoying my breakfast while reading the paper!

  11. jen

I sense a theme in the comments. A morning workout is my preferred way to start the day followed by oatmeal. I eat oatmeal about 95% of my mornings and have never tired of it.

What makes my morning amazing…my uninterrupted run/sweat session (there is no better way to start the day) followed by my daily coffee and breakfast chat with my husband and best friend Dan! Days start right in Happy Valley. 🙂

  13. My MWF mornings are amazing because I get to cuddle with a baby. My TR mornings are amazing because I get to sleep in 🙂

  14. Liz

Walks with my dog make my mornings amazing 🙂 Thanks for the giveaway girl!

  15. Jessica F

    Coffee. Enough said. 🙂

  16. Caroline

I start my morning by going to class and learning everything from the difference b/w Staph. aureus and Strep. pneumo. to the nerves that innervate the anterior compartment of the leg and how to relieve exertional compartment syndrome. I usually follow class up with some organic rice cakes, Greek yogurt, and a run or swim!

  17. hmmmm…the most amazing part of my morning is doing 30 minutes of yoga and then taking a shower…perfect way to stay relaxed and get ready for the day!

what makes my morning amazing is hearing my baby girl babbling to herself in her crib, and when i open the her bedroom door and step in, she gives me the hugest smile. she knows it’s me and smiles even though she can barely open her eyes because of the bright light i just let in. it’s so cute and makes even my sleepiest morning amazing!

To make my morning amazing, I start with a bowl of creamy, yet nutty steel cut oat with pb, banana and some coffee. Next week I’ll be starting my 5am workouts to get the endorphins going!

  21. Iman

    What makes my morning amazing?
First thing I do in the morning is prayer and that is so relaxing and a good start…the second thing which is of utmost importance and wonderful relief is using the bathroom ( sorry really my morning will never feel good if I don’t use the bathroom) then of course my running that kicks my endorphins and pushes me more toward my upcoming marathon in Houston..and then comes the coffee, biscotti, breakfast and newspaper; my morning is amazing and the rhythm carries to the whole day…

  22. What makes my morning amazing? Visiting my favorite local coffee shop for a decaf brew on my way to work. I love everyone that works there and the coffee is heaven.

  23. Janice

    a nice refreshing walk!

    1) I think, to *truly* be a warrior, you might need one of our helmets. You can borrow it when you visit.

    2) I love my bike ride into work in the morning. Zooming downhill in this perfect fall weather is a great start to the day.

  27. Coffee makes my morning amazing. When I skip the java, something *always* goes wrong – it never fails. It really kickstarts my day!

  28. My day starts off amazingly with a an awesome sweat-fest. There is NOTHING better than getting your workout groove on before hitting the office. Always sets the tone for the day. That and overnight oats. Yummy yum, yum.

  29. runyogarepeat

I start the morning with coffee and a big bowl of delicious oatmeal!

  30. Lauren

Fresh, hot, coffee definitely starts my day. Followed up by a nice bowl of oatmeal of course!

  31. Definitely a run! And of course coming home to coffee and oatmeal while reading blogs. 🙂

  32. Kelly a

My favorite thing about the morning is having time to drink my coffee and have “me time”. I make sure to wake up early so I don’t have to rush.

  33. What makes my mornings amazing is a great cuppa coffee with the hubby before he heads off to work. What made this Fri. morning especially amazing is that it’s not long until we leave for our Jamaican vacation. YES!

  34. a cold morning run followed by hot oatmeal (and i am not just saying that!) and coffee make my mornings AMAZING! 🙂

  35. LOL about the banana supply running out – that becomes an emergency in our household. 😉

I LOVE the morning – it’s my favorite part of the day. Especially now, during training, I love running in the morning. I wake up early, hydrate, eat 1st breakfast and hit the trail. After a shower and some stretching, I have a huge bowl of oatmeal…cinnamon, banana and something for a little crunch are mandatory in my bowl. 🙂

  36. I love my little walk with the dog and some stretchy stretch each morning! Makes me happy and more ready to start the day.

  37. I “tweeted” about the giveaway this morning! Another way to have an amazing morning…tweet about an oatmeal giveaway hehe

  38. lacey

ahhh i love seeing bob’s face 🙂 i miss him so!!!

okay MY morning is amazing because of COFFEEEEEEEEEEEEEE with soy creamer 🙂 and i know you appreciate the world conquering syndrome that is implied by this amazingness 🙂

hooray for oatmeal, too. this is how i also start my day every day 🙂

  39. I eat regular ol’ Quaker oats every morning. In the winter I eat them hot with banana, pumpkin, apple, etc… In the summer I eat them cold (soaked overnight) with yogurt & berries, banana, apple, etc.

I’m looking forward to your review of the Bob Harper DVD. I saw that on Facebook and on an advertisement on Hulu (both relating to Quaker) and thought it looked interesting!

  40. I get up early enough to go to yoga or for a run, then eat oatmeal for breakfast while reading the newspaper – all before heading to work!

  41. Leslie

I love starting the day by enjoying breakfast with my husband. We may not have a lot to say, the puppies are running around, we’re still in a hurry, but I wouldn’t miss it for the world!

  42. I start every day with a nice breakfast and watching some of my saved DVR programs. I am not a morning person and this relaxing time helps me to wake up.

  43. Jessica

A morning workout (usually a run outside) followed by a cool down on my quiet little suburban street. Love to have that few minutes of calm before I turn the key and open the door to the house. Never know what I’ll be greeted with…a kiss from the hubby, screaming kids, a sweet daughter coming down the steps, slobbering dogs, etc. It’s nice to have an amazing start.

  44. Weekday mornings are hard. I have to be out the door by 6 with a 3year old and (currently) 6month old. I get them all ready on my own (as my husband has to be to work by 6). I make my own egg sandwich by putting an egg in an egg pan and toasting a whole grain bread. My runs happen after work. I really wish I could get my runs in the morning.

Weekends are the best mornings. I run in the morning with my best running partner ever…my wonderful dog. When I get home, I make breakfast for my family. Pancakes, waffles, eggs, cream of wheat, or oatmeal…depending on what the 3 year old decides (we don’t care any way).

  45. Kelsey R

My mornings are amazing when there is a hot shower and hot coffee involved 🙂

  46. This is oatstanding! Cool giveaway. Gosh, I’ve enjoyed Quaker since I was a kid, remember the oatmeal that you could put jam and different flavors on top. And the Dinosaur eggs, mmmm!

  47. If I can get in a run, and make it home in time for the kids to wake up, run downstairs, and give me hugs, my day will for sure be amazing!

  48. Laura

A morningwork out to wake me up and start the day off right then usually cleaning and making a yummy breakfast is a perfect morning for me!

  49. Every morning, while I’m still under the covers, I do ankle rolls. This has really helped ease some foot and ankle pain I had been having AND it wakes up my whole body by getting the blood flowing!

  50. Vanessa

My amazing mornings begin with a great run, hot shower, Quaker oats w/peanut butter!! Then they get better from all the hugs I get from my 17 little first graders I teach.

  51. seeing my baby cats in the morning, and the squirrels in the park across the street always makes my day! That and holiday teas 🙂

  52. healthycollegegirl

My most amazing mornings consist of a long run while the sun comes up with nothing but the sound of my feet hitting the pavement, the birds waking up, and thoughts of my post-run breakfast and coffee filling my head 🙂

  53. leanne

Hot coffee and Hulu for me please!!

  54. Jenn

I start my day with breakfast and a good stretch.

  55. My morning is amazing if we managed to keep the fire going all night long, which means it’s warm enough to get up and make coffee without wanting to jump back into bed ASAP! I love waking up to the smell and sounds of the boyfriend making coffee, and bringing me a cup in bed. Extra amazing points when the pup comes to my bedside and wants her breakfast and a hug.

  56. Not going to lie…coffee really perks up my morning!

  57. Holly

I LOVE my morning runs. Nothing beats it, really!

  58. I find a good cardio workout AMAZING! Oats ARE fabulous, but without a good workout they aren’t AS fabulous as they could be.

  59. Suely

Oats, Coffee and a little prayer!

  60. Every morning when I wake up, I make sure to enjoy an AMAZING breakfast. By having this breakfast I know that I will have plenty of energy to focus on both work and school!! 🙂

  61. Katie R

An amazing morning for me would include:
-waking up just as the sun is rising (the world is so pretty and peaceful at that time)
-blue skies as far as the eyes can see (once the sun has risen 🙂 )
-a delicious bowl of cereal (likely with some ‘kid’ cereal intermixed with some ‘adult’ cereal)
    -a longish run
    -hot vinyasa yoga
When I realize all of these things before lunch, the day is off to an AMAZING start.

  62. Allison

An amazing morning to me is waking up with children who aren’t at eachothers throats by 7:30am : )

  63. Danielle

My mornings are amazing when I take the time to identify a few things that I am looking forward to that day!

  64. Sara

Coffee is a must first thing in the morning! And if I had time I would have oatmeal everyday too.

  65. Kristen

The smiles of three adorable preschoolers wakes me up every morning….plus lots of Starbucks Caramel coffee :). They really get me motivated & moving.
